FSX TrapBlaster™ JR

Stage 1 – Pneumatic Cleaner and Dust Collector

The TrapBlaster™ JR is a pneumatic diesel particulate filter (DPF) cleaning machine that combines the features of the FSX TrapBlaster™ and FSX SootSucker™ into a single, compact, lower-cost machine. The bi-directional air knives allow bypass detection to identify failed filters and offer highly efficient cell-by-cell cleaning. The fully integrated dust collector uses single-phase power and has long-lasting filters. This machine works with smaller air compressors allowing a lower overall cost. Throughput at four DPF per shift makes this machine a quality addition to any small shop needing to clean DPF and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC).

Bi-Directional Scanning Air Knives

FSX‘s patented, bi-directional air-scanning technology provides the highest quality cleaning of DPFs and DOCs. The filter is placed in the machine, dirty side down, with the air knives adjusted to 1/4 inch (6mm) above the ceramic cells.

The upper and lower air knives clean both ends of the filter. The lower air knife loosens soot and ash while the upper air knife evacuates. Bi-directional scanning air knives ensure optimum filter recovery.

Bypass Detection Testing System

The TrapBlaster™ JR has a built-in, patented, detection system, that identifies defective DPFs within the first two minutes of operation. The operator can identify cracked or melted DPFs if soot and ash are coming out of the wrong end (top) of the filter. If the DPF is bypassing soot and ash the operator can stop the cleaning process and move on to the next filter.

Bypass detection is an important diagnostic tool. FSX technology gives absolute confirmation of filter integrity and assures that no time is wasted cleaning defective filters or reinstalling a defective filter.

Visible Cleaning Process

The operator can see the cleaning process through the upper and lower windows of the machine. Visible cleaning allows the operator to see if the filter has defects, the speed and success of the cleaning, and know when the cleaning is complete.

When soot and ash stop coming out of the filter the cleaning process is complete.

If bypass is observed the filter is defective.

Cell by Cell Cleaning

The TrapBlaster™ JR cleans each cell individually using high-pressured airflow. The scanning air knives pass over each cell multiple times on both ends of the filter.

The lower air nozzle targets the hardened ash plugs by shooting jets of air straight up the dirty cells. The air jets break up the soot and ash deposits. The upper nozzle blows out the material loosened by the lower nozzles.

FSX nozzles are flexible to assure that if the air knife touches the filter face it will not cause damage. The FSX TrapBlaster Curved Nozzle Kit allows cleaning under overhanging flanges.

The patented FSX TrapBlaster™ is the only machine on the market that cleans cells individually on both sides of the DPF.

Fully Adjustable

The FSX TrapBlaster™ JR comes with a complete set of adapter plates (or an adjustable mechanism) to fit nearly all DPF and DOC filters. The machine cleans DPF ranging from 5″ to 26″ (127mm – 660mm) in both height and diameter. Height and scan distance can be adjusted while the machine is running.

Set-up time for a new filter size takes about 30 seconds.

Automated Process

The machine runs automatically after set-up and bypass detection. The FSX TrapBlaster™ JR uses a touchscreen, creating a simple method of choosing standard cleaning programs. Custom cleaning programs are simple to build, and set up. Adjustable nozzles allow access to hard-to-reach flanges and cavities. The FSX TrapBlaster™ JR leaves the operator free to walk away and perform other tasks. The machine will work like a robot in your shop.

Throughput

The cleaning time for the FSX TrapBlaster™ JR is about 2 hours to clean one filter with a 10hp air compressor and about 45 minutes to clean one filter with a 30hp air compressor. Cleaning time will also vary due to ash loading, the volume of soot, and the hardening of ash.

Shop throughput is typically four filters cleaned and processed in an 8-hour shift, with a 30hp air compressor.

Integrated Dust Collector

Using a two-stage filtration system, the FSX TrapBlaster™ JR collects hazardous particles released from the filter cleaning process. A durable primary filter and final HEPA filter remove hazardous particles and deliver clean air back into your shop. The primary filter self-cleans to maximize the number of filters it can process before the primary filter needs to be cleaned. Typically 100 DPF can be cleaned before this is needed. Built-in gauges alert the operator when the primary and HEPA filters need replacement. The integrated dust collector starts as soon as the cleaning starts. Dust is collected into a 5-gallon bucket that is easy to check and easy to remove.

High Cleaning Efficiency

Most filters cleaned are successfully reinstalled after being cleaned on an FSX TrapBlaster™.

Soot Removal = up to 99%
Ash Removal = up to 99%*

*Ash removal rates vary depending on how hard ash has become inside the cells. Ash hardens from high-temperature thermal cycles and the addition of chemicals in coolant. Therefore, the highest cleaning success is achieved on filters that are cleaned sooner than later.

Cleaning efficiency is measured by using the FSX TrapTester™ (an airflow tester), pin gauges to determine cell depth.

FSX has the highest efficiency dry cleaning system in the world.

The success of cleaning and fall-out rates vary by engine manufacture duty cycle and preventative maintenance.

FSX technology used in the FSX TrapBlaster™ JR has been proven to not damage the filter media or the wash coats.

Safe for Operators

The machine stops if the door is opened.

CE, ETL, CSA rated: Lockout/Tagout switch

Ergonomically friendly, filters load into the machine at 30″ shelf height.

Dust collector is interlocked to assure vacuum is on when the pneumatic cleaning starts

Dust is fully contained and evacuated from the cleaning chamber

Proven safe operation on installations worldwide

Environmental Safety

Dry waste in the form of soot and ash particulate is easy to handle and dispose of. Particulate is vacuumed away and dropped into a 5-gallon bucket that is easy to handle.

Dispose of dust in the local solid waste disposal system. Most jurisdictions allow this dry waste to be put in standard waste receptacles.

*check with local regulations before dispensing
